Hear Ye! Hear Ye!
It is hard to believe that it is already November. School is in full swing and the Ney library has been one busy place! Here is what is happening in the library: Kindergarten: This year we are working on a year long unit about Nursery Rhymes. The kids are really learning a lot and we are having so much fun doing it! First: The first graders have learned how to choose an AR book on their level with out much assistance. I am proud of how fast they all seemed to pick this skill up! We have been working on ABC order for first grade and learning how books are placed on the shelves in ABC order by the author's last name. Second grade: The second graders have just finished a two week unit on Bats. We read a fiction as well as a nonfiction bat book and charted what we have learned. It was eye-opening to see hwo much more information we can get from a nonfiction book! Third and Fourth grade: The third and fourth graders have just started the Bluebonnet reading club. You should have received information about this program through your child's Go Folder. The requirements have changed this year. In order to be eligible to vote for their favorite Bluebonnet book, each third and fourth grader must read at least five books from this year's Bluebonnet list. They must also take an AR test on these books and score at least a 70 or better. Voting will be on January 25th. In order to be eligible for the Bluebonnet party on February 12th, third and fourth graders must read 15 Bluebonnet books (at least 8 must come from this year's list, the rest can come from previous years) and score a 70 or better on the AR test for each of these. All students have a Bluebonnet Reading log to document what books they have read this year. This log is kept in their library folder.
