What's going on! February 2010 Mrs. Lara’s Class Volume 10 Issue 6
Peek at the Week During the month of February we will be discussing Groundhog’s day, dental health, friendship, Valentine’s Day, President’s day, and Black History. We will be creating and gathering information from graphs. We will continue making sets, recognizing, and writing numbers through 15. We will also be having a 100th day celebration in class. We will have a Valentine Exchange on February 12. If you would like to send something (cookies, brownies, cupcakes, drinks,) it would be greatly appreciated! You may send it with your child that morning. A class list and a note have already been sent home. Play word games by separating words into onset and rime and have your child tell you the word. (Ex. /c/ /at/=cat; /ch/ /air/=chair. (Use the sounds of the letters, not the names of the letters) Also, break words down into individual phonemes (sounds) and have them tell you the word. (Ex. /r/ /e/ /d/=red /h/ /o/ /me/=home. Practice writing words with CVC patterns. (Consonant vowel consonant) These words can be phonetically spelled out. (Words such as dig, hop, bat, pen, mud) Continue using the flashcards to help build letter recognition fluency and letter sound fluency. We can use goldfish, pretzels, graham crackers, animal crackers, vanilla wafers, cereal, fruit snacks, or other type of snack your child may prefer.
